Chicagoans have known Tavern-style pizza to have existed longer than the deep dish in Chicago. It is another born and bred pizza style from Chicago.

This very thin-crust pizza does not fold like the New York pizza style. It holds more toppings than a typical thin crust. This pizza is cut into squares famously known as Tavern-cut.

What stands out most about this spot, well apart from their fantastic pizza, is how much they have stuck to tradition.

Up to date, Vito only does cash. They also do not deliver. Nick made this promise many years ago. He said that Vito and Nick’s would never deliver. This is because he believes in their pizza and that it is worth the trip to its location.

They prefer to have you dine with them at their spot. However, you can do takeout. If you want to enjoy one of the best pizzas in the city, then you better give them a call and make your order and reservation.

Vito’s pizza screams of Chicago more than any other place in Chicago. The pizza has a red tangy homemade sauce that is delicious, and the cracker-thin crust which holds the fresh sausages in place.

Chicagoans love meat. Therefore most of the toppings will include high-quality sausages and pork.

Most of the pizzas here cost only between $18 to $22.50. They only serve two types of pizza, the sausage pizza and the cheese pizza, which come as 12 inches or 14 inches.

They then provide a list of ingredients like more sausage, pepperoni, green and black olives, mushrooms, etc. You can choose to add these ingredients to your pizza. This comes with an additional $1.75 to$3.50 for their 12-inch pizza and $2.00 to $4.00 for their 14-inch pizza.

Marie’s has existed since 1940. Theodore Karavidas started it. It wasn’t until 1950 that George Theodore, who had bought it from his father, started selling pizza.

Initially, it was a package goods store. Nadine Marine, George’s daughter, currently owns it.

Marie’s does deliveries, indoor dining, and outdoor dining. However, because of the covid pandemic, indoor dining is no longer available.

They also have a wide range of alcoholic beverages that you can take advantage of when you visit. This is the place to go with friends and family on a Friday night to unwind. Nothing screams relaxation more than pizza and beer.

Like all Chicagoan places, they prefer to top their pizza from edge to edge with sausages. However, they have other options too that you can choose from. The pizza comes in 12 inches and 14 inches, and you can also enjoy the soup and salad side. They have many specials and offers.

You can take advantage of the pizza lovers’ lunch offer every day until 4.00 pm for indoor diners. In case you are up for some entertainment, then you should visit them on Thursday evenings. They have live performances for their Jazz and martinis specials.

Honestly, it is hard to define the pizza style for this kind of pizza coal fire produce. Coalfire sticks to no rules. The crust is thin and chewy, making it more like New York style and Neopolitan style. It is also a bit crispy and charred like the New Haven-style pizza.

However, what makes us call it a Tavern’s style pizza is the edge-to-edge toppings on the crust. The crust is sturdy enough to support all these toppings. They add whipped ricotta to their pizza. This produces a cooling effect whenever you take a bite of the pizza.

You can also enjoy other toppings like spicy pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, garlic spiced white pie, as well as the Calabria salmi known as nduja.

Apart from the primary location, you can still enjoy your pizza at Southport’s. They open from 4 pm to 9 pm every day. You can as well have it delivered to your doorstep.

Spacca Napoli makes its pizza using a wood-burning brick oven. It imports its ovens from Naples, where they were made by original Italian artisans who had years of experience.

They make their dough every day, and any leftovers are tossed out. The ingredients used are sourced from Naples and imported to Chicago.

I love everything about Spacca Napoli. You would not regret a visit there, from the fiery orange walls outside and classy decor on the inside to the warm service. It is the perfect Italian experience.

They have a comprehensive menu with fantastic pizza options. Most of them I could not pronounce with my American accent, but they sounded delicious.

Being a mushroom lover, I was confused about what to choose since there are many options. They are all delicious. However, I prefer the Capriciosa. It consists of black olives, mushrooms, Sardinian artichokes, and prosciutto.

Spacca Napoli refers to itself as the Third place. This is where you and your friend should gather outside the office and home to unwind and break bread(in this case, pizza). They promise to provide you with an experience more significant than yourself, and boy, do they provide!

Spacca Napoli has a beautiful seasonal patio to provide your outdoor dining experience.  You and your friends can take advantage of this and have your parties or weekend hangouts here.

Whether you pride yourself somewhat classy and bougie or laid back and straightforward, Spacca has its doors open for you.

Spacca Napoli closes on Mondays but is open every day after that at 11.30 am. It closes at 9 pm. You can make your reservations via phone or in person.

However, reservations are only held for 10 minutes. If any of your party members are late, you will lose the table.

Middle brow had been doing contract brewing for eight years before setting up its location on Armitage Avenue in logan square. It has a rustic theme and foeders that compliment the decor. It provides an excellent environment if you want to taste the experimental brews.

The tables in the patio area are filled with thin Neopolitan pizza in the evenings.

Middle brow makes their dough every day, therefore expect only fresh slices. For the full experience, down your pizza with a bottle of beer. The pizza is served as whole pies or slices.

You should order as much pint and pizza as you want without feeling guilty of overeating since half the profits are donated to a social-justice organization.

Nothing perfect as a fantastic establishment that cares about its people.

Middle brow is one of the few pizza places in Chicago that opens early. They open at 8 am from Wednesday to Friday and close at 8 pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, they open at 9 am and close at 8 pm on Saturday and 7 pm on Sunday. These are the official hours for takeout too. Additionally, you can order and have the pizza delivered to your home.

Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana is an Italian restaurant that serves authentic italian cuisines. Nothing spells Italian more than a pizza. This establishment in Harlem Avenue, Chicago, serves one of the best pizzas you can find in the city.

The pizza is made using the freshest handpicked ingredients that you can find in Italy. Then these ingredients are imported to Chicago.

The recipes used to make Forno Rosso’s pizzas are detailed and crafted by Nick Nitti after studying the pizza Napoletana Art in Naples.

The crust is thin and crispy. It is slightly charred with just enough toppings. The dough is made and then left to ferment for 12 hours before cooking it. This results in a crust with an exciting flavor that you will love so much.

They serve the Neopolitan classics; this is, Marinara and Margherita. They also have Bufalina which has San Marzano tomatoes, ciliegine di bufala, basil and mozzarella di bufala and Rosso Diavalo which has mozzarella, romano, basil, soppressata and tomatoes.

You can also checkout Capricciosa if you are a mushroom lover or Carbonara if you love your pizza with eggs.

You are not limited to these choices. Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana serves many flavors of pizzas. What stood out the most for me was Datterino.

This fantastic pie has basl, cliegine di bufala, red piennolo tomatoes, tomato sauce, colle del giachi evoo, and finally mozzarella di bufala at the top.

Nick Nitti is an Italian living in Chicago and is the founder of Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana. He lived in Italy as a kid. One time, during one of the many road trips his family took, they stopped in Naples. His father bought him a pizza Napoletana, and he has never forgotten that first bite.

In 2012, while living in Chicago, he returned to Naples to study how to make pizza in Napoletana. He was trained by one of the best Pizzaiolos in Napoli. After this, he returned to Chicago, on Harlem Avenue, and created Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana.

Forno Rosso has experienced great success, which is expected as all they serve is quality. This led to their second location in West Loop on Randolph St.

Forno Pizzeria prides itself on serving the best Pizza Napoletana. It is even part of Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN), a non-profit that helps cultivate the art of pizza Napoletana making.

Therefore whenever you are in Chicago and would like to experience the Italian culture, this is the place you should visit. From the names of the items on the menu, which are all in Italian, you are guaranteed to receive genuine Italian pizza.

Forno Rosso currently provides outdoor seating, delivery, carryout, and indoor dining. However, due to the covid 19, the tables are limited. Therefore you have to go to Forno Rosso relatively early if you want one.

The location on Harlem avenue opens from 11 am to 10 pm daily, while the one on Rudolph street opens from 11 am to 10 pm Sunday to Thursday and 11 am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

They sell their pizza per single serving. However, Good luck trying to finish one deep dish alone. With the topping, an inch thick crust, and lots of sauce and cheese, the dish is very filling.

Burt closed in 2015 but reopened again in 2017 and has never looked back since then. It serves caramelized crust which locals love so much.

You can choose your toppings but if you want the complete Chicago experience, remember to include sausages. Down this with a beer served at the drafts taps in the building.

If you want to visit Burt’s, then order ahead of time. This spot is usually crowded. Doing a walk-in is not a good idea as you will wait in line for long.

Burt’s is located just a quick Metra ride away from the city. If you pride yourself a pizza enthusiast and have not eaten at Burt’s place before, you need to visit them.

This is why Robert Garvey’s pizzeria is doing so well in the Midwest.

Robert Garvey spent almost two decades working on developing the perfect, thin, crunchy, and chewy crust. He cooks the pizza in a brick oven at temperatures of 1000 degrees F.

Additionally, here, the pizzas have fresh toppings that are experimental and creative. Some creative combinations include cured duck breasts with duck prosciutto and Calabrian chile tomato sauce and mozzarella.

They have gluten-free options for people with health conditions and allergies for an additional $2. If you are a vegetarian, they have The Lia, caramelized onion, The Funghi, roasted vegetables, and Three cheese for you.
