Sharing is caring!

We all know pizza tastes different in New York. Is it the environment or the tall buildings, or is it the fullness of life in this city that never sleeps?

I do not know, but the taste of pizza in New York is magical. It gives me a hard time to write where pizza is best in New York as there are plenty of fantastic spots.

Here are some best pizza in other places you may want to check out.

Denino’s Pizzeria Tavern

Location: 524 Port Richmond Ave, Staten Island, NY 10302

Contact: (718) 442-9401

Deninos Pizzeria Tavern

Denino’s has multiple locations, with Staten Island being the original one, and the other locations are in New Jersey and Manhattan. Denino’s has been on business since 1937.

It started as a full tavern in State Island(where it is currently located).  Carlo Denino’s father ran the place.

It wasn’t until 1951 after Carlo Denino took over after his father had passed away, they started selling pizza.

Since then, Denino’s has never looked behind. It keeps growing every day, and today they are franchising. Denino’s serves pizza, meatballs, sausage, and chicken parmigiana made from the family recipes.

Denino’s serves award-winning pretty thin crust pizza characterized by red, tangy but still sweet sauce, shreds of basil, and mozzarella cheese threads. This perfect, artsy combination makes this location qualify for your next destination.

You can add every type of topping you ever dreamed of that is available- often, a lot is available.

The pizza here is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Nothing here is ever frozen, and everything is cooked when you order.

Denino’s does allow for indoor dining. However, because of the pandemic, the seats are limited. You can make reservations by calling the number above.

Alternatively, you can order online via the website or call the number to have your order delivered to your home.

Joe & Pat Pizzeria and Restaurant

Location: 1758 Victory Blvd Staten Island, NY 10314

Contact: 718-981-0887

Joe Pat Pizzeria and Restaurant

This location was born in 1960 and has never looked back since. It prides itself on producing the best pizza on Staten Island since 1960.

Its loyal customers enjoy thin-crust pizzas with bright tomato sauce with loads of stringy cheese that New Yorkers love so much.

One of their best pizzas is their tri-pie. This pizza is cut into three parts. The pizza consists of Joe and Pat signature sauce, pesto sauce, vodka sauce, and a sufficient amount of fresh mozzarella.

I love their royal pizza because what is pizza without meat. This is one of Joe and Pat’s specialty pizzas. It contains meatballs, pepperoni, mushroom, and sausages spiced with pepper. You can also add anchovies to it if you prefer.

It opens daily from 11 am to 10.30 pm except for Friday and Saturday that closes at 11.30 pm. They provide indoor dining, but of course, the seats are limited to provide social distancing.

You can make your order through Slice, and you will have it delivered in 30 to 45 minutes.

If you are allergic to gluten, then they have gluten-free options on their pizza menu.

Di Fara Pizza

Location 1: 1424 Ave J, Brooklyn, NY 11230

Contact: 718-258-1367

Location 2: 103 N 3rd St, Brooklyn, NY 11249

Contact: 929-294-9464

Di Fara Pizza

This is one of the earliest pizzerias in New York that still stands and undisputedly continues serving us its greatness. Di Fara was created in 1965 by Domenico De Marco, also known as Dom, an Italian immigrant.

The original location was the Midwood location, with the Williamsburg one coming years later.

Expect this legendary joint to serve you fresh pizza made from imported, authentic ingredients from Italy. These ingredients are brought together keenly and with a lot of expertise to form pizza that you can never forget.

Each pizza is specially handcrafted by Dom (82 years now) himself with his children’s help.

Pizza at Di Fara is sold per slice. You can order a basic one and have it topped up with unique toppings like broccoli rabe, soppressata, and prosciutto.

You can make your order via Goldfish wherever you are in the United States. This means even if you are outside New York, you can still enjoy your best pizza.

They also offer event catering; therefore, whenever you have a party, they have you covered.

Next time you are in this “center of universe” , visit this notoriously magnificent location and reward your mouth with their notoriously delicious pizza.

L&B Spumoni Gardens

Location: 2725 86th St (at W 10th St) Brooklyn, NY 11223

Contact: (718) 372-8400

LB Spumoni Gardens

When you get to New York, you will hardly miss someone mentioning the famous L&B Spumoni Gardens. This is one of the classic pizzerias in Brooklyn, New York.

In 1939, Ludovico Barbati started this magnificent location. Ludovico was so passionate about the art of pizza making. He believed it was a tradition worth making and sharing.

Since then, L&B has never served frozen pizzas or prepackaged ones. They make their Sicillia pizzas fresh while upholding the Ludovico tradition that has put them on the top for almost a century.

L&B serves square pies that you can order by the square or the whole tray. This gigantic pizza comes as a thick doughy crust with a thick layer of hot cheese covered with just enough-layer of sweet, tangy red tomato sauce.

My best pizza experience at L&B is when I enjoy a few bites of the plain dreamy Sicilian pizza before adding my toppings.

Brooklynites hope to enjoy more L&B  pizza options soon as this great spot is looking to open a second location in Dumbo, 46 old Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, in a few months.

Currently, you can still enjoy indoor dining. You have to make a reservation on the L&B website or give them a call. If you make reservations via the website, wait for their call for the reservation to be confirmed. They open daily from 11.00 am to midnight.

You can also order your pizza and have it delivered. Currently, you can order through uber eats, GRUBHUB, and PostMates.

Pauline Gee’s Slice Shop

Location: 110 Franklin Street Brooklyn, NY 11222

Contact: sliceinfo@pauliegee.com

Pauline Gees Slice Shop

Pauline Gee’s is a spot that serves traditional new york style pizzas and Sicilian pizza. Pauline Gee’s has a short menu but serves one of the best pizzas you will ever taste in the city of New York.

Pauline serves different kinds of flavors, which range between 23 dollars to 34 dollars per pie. There is the plain cheese pizza that consists of mozzarella and tomato sauce. You can also order the Mootz, a combination of fresh garlic, mozzarella, and Pecorina Romano.

If you are a  meaty person, you can try pepperoni or sausage flavors. My favorite pizza is the Hellboy² which is a little bit of everything because, why not?

The toppings consist of tomato sauce, Ezzo pepperoni, Mike’s hot honey, pecorino romano, and mozzarella cheese, all in a Sicilian pizza. Then there are sesame seeds at the bottom. Call it delicious!!

This is an inclusive spot as they provide vegan pizza options. If you are vegan, do not forget to try the Vegan Freddy Prinze, a Sicilian pizza consisting of Tomato sauce, sesame seeds, Numu vegan mozzarella, vegan sausage, and vegan parm.

Not until recently Paulie Gee’s did not have takeout and delivery services. Initially, it provided indoor dining, but this is not available since the onset of quarantine.

Then they started offering their services via a  walk-up carryout window before finally facilitating delivery services through Caviar or DoorDash.

You can also order canned beer, packed Mike’s hot honey, or merch alongside your pizza.

Pauline Gee’s opens from Sunday to Thursday from noon to 9 pm. On Friday and Saturday, it opens at noon and closes at 11 pm.

Fridays and Saturdays get the most orders, and for this reason, there are times when they are forced to disable Caviar and DoorDash. On these days, try to order early.

If you find the site is down, you can walk down to their establishment and make your order at their side window.

Due to covid 19, they will not serve you without a mask on.

Roberta’s Pizza

Location: 8810 Washington Blvd Culver City, CA 90232

Contact: (718) 417-1118

Robertas Pizza

This spot has been there for a decade. New Yorkers’ love for this establishment grows more as years pass by. Roberta has a beautiful space, and their pies are simply beautiful if food can be beautiful.

You can choose from the very many options present best among them Cheesus christ and Famous Original. Famous Original comes with mozzarella, caciocavallo, Parmigiano Reggiano, chili, and oregano.

Cheesus Christ has taleggio and black pepper sprinkled on Parmigiano Reggiano, cream, and mozzarella layer.

If you want to be experimental, you can customize your flavor with the many toppings available.

Roberta’s recently started allowing outdoor dining in their beautiful garden. You can make reservations online. They unlock their doors from 11 am to 10 pm daily. You can as well order through their number of Caviar.

Roberta’s serves frozen pizza, too; therefore, if you are outside New York, you can order a taste of Roberta’s pizza via Goldbely.

Lucali

Location:575 Henry St (between Carroll St & 1st Pl) Brooklyn, NY 11231

Contact: (718) 858-4086

Lucali

This spot is owned by Mark Iacono, who has been referred to as the pizza guru severally. It is hard to get into the spot. This is the spot most frequented by Hollywood stars Beyonce and JayZ.

Lucali is rated number 1 in New York and the second-best pizza place in the United States. This is a pizzeria that most New Yorkers wish to visit if they have not visited it yet.

You can ask for garlic, basil, and a side of sauce for dipping when you order your pizza.

Unfortunately, Lucali only allows cash.

Initially, Lucali had no takeout, but they launched the option in mid of 2020. This means from 1 pm you can make your order using the above number.

Getting in is relatively easier now because of Covid 19, and a queue will start at around 4 pm. Lucali advises you to show up before 5 pm, place your order, and then have a drink. They will call you when they have your table ready.

Lucali allows BYOB, which makes it tenfold times more awesome.

Fornino

Location: 849 Manhattan Ave (between Noble & Milton St.) Brooklyn, NY 11222

Contact: (718) 389-5300

Fornino

Fornino stood for the first time in 2004 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It was a small pizzeria, but the delicious pizza it served took Brooklyn and entire New York by a storm.

This spot has another location on Brooklyn Bridge that opens seasonally, this is, between March and October.

Both locations serve woodfired pies that have a nice smoky flavor only found from woodfired ovens.

The menu is structured in a fascinating historical way. There is the first generation (Naples) which we all consider the mother of pizza or the authentic pizza. This consists of the Neapolitan Classics like Marinara.

Then there is the second Generation(Italy). This presents flavors that we consider traditional, like Sicilian. They make these dishes using indigenous ingredients.

Finally, there is the third Generation (Fornino). This consists of Fornino’s own experimental creations and combinations developed over the years by their world-class chefs.

They provide delivery services. You can make your order of your favorite pizza via ChowNow.

Fornino produces one of the most fantastic pizza crusts with decadent toppings.

It purchases and handpicks its ingredients from top quality local vendors, which has led to them being the best pizza in New York City.

This restaurant was started by Michael Ayoub, a chef for many years in big restaurants like Cucina and Skaffles. He named the establishment Forino after his mother’s maiden name, which means little oven.

These magnificent pizzas are cooked in custom-built ovens that reach temperatures of up to over 900 degrees F.  Michael is also a glass artist. He has used his skills to develop the sculptures and hand-blown lights that he uses to decorate Fornino Greenpoint.

Scarr’s Pizza

Location: 22 Orchard Street, New York, New York 10002

Contact:(212) 334-3481

Scarrs Pizza

Scarr’s pizza is a newbie on the Lower East Side. Scarr Pimentel started Scarr’s Pizza in 2016. This spot has quickly grown its fanbase in less than five years and has taken its spots among pizza giants in New York.

Scarr learned how to make perfect pizza in significant pizzerias like Artichoke, Joe’s, and Lombardi’s. After some time, he started getting disappointed by how pizza quality was deteriorating with years. This was when he decided to start his place.

Scarr Pizzeria has a retro style that gives it a 70s diner theme. I love eating pizza in such an environment. It gives me the perception that every bite is authentic and original. Your grandma would fall in love with this place.

They mill their wheat to create flour for its dough. The Times and Eater have named this spot as one of the places to get the best pizza in New York.

We can attribute their excellence to the expertise, keenness, and amount of time they dedicate to their pizza production.

You can order the pizza by the slice or have the whole pie. Two to three people can eat a whole pie.

They still allow indoor dining at their wraparound bar counter or a backroom booth.

The menu is truncated with only five pizza flavors, white, original, Sicilian, pepperoni, and vegan. However, there are loads of toppings. They source their ingredients locally; hence you are guaranteed only fresh pizzas.

You can also order your slices via Grubhub, Seamless, Postmates, or Caviar. They also sell dough balls made from their homemade organic flour. Each ball can either create a 12-inch pizza or a 19 inch. You can also use this dough to make bread.

If you want to make your pizza from scratch, you buy fresh, homemade, stone-milled flour.

Nunzios Pizzeria and restaurant

Nunzio’s is a staten island pizzeria that was started in 1942 by Nunzio Trivoluzzo. This stupendous pizzeria serves dreamy thin-crust pies with just enough signature tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings.

Nunzio’s menu includes other dishes like eggplant parmigiana heroes, garlic knots, stuffed shells, and garlic knots. However, pizza is what stands out more.

The pizza here is so good. When you down it with a bottle of soda, you experience heaven so good you will want more and more.

Nunzio’s incredible thing is that they come at low prices of $2.50 per regular slice despite the heavenly pizza. The service is excellent too with friendly staff and a chilled environment. The walls have black and white photos that give this spot a homey feeling.

Nunzio’s allow for delivery and takeout. Currently, there are no reservations and indoor dining because of the pandemic. You can order by calling the above number. It opens every day from 11 am to 8 pm.

When you get to Nunzio’s, you will realize there is no word like “not-amazing.” Everything is spectacular. Nunzio’s serves the best pie in Staten island, hands down. Visit it. I promise you will not regret it.

This is a family spot that two brothers, Ernie & Louie, started. This was in 1947 in Harlem. They later moved to Pelham Bay, where they currently still are in a used-to-be house-turned-pizzeria.

The pizza crust here is out of this world. It is crispy and yeasty. Then they add a single layer of tomato sauce before putting shredded mozzarella cheese.

You can have as many toppings as you want, and even this still allows you to fold and enjoy your pizza New York style.

To order, call (718) 829-6230

Rose Joes Italian Bakery

Rose and Joe’s is part of the Slice family. It is a destination-worthy Italian bakery that serves fantastic oversized Sicilian pizza by the square slice.

We call the pizza here grandma-style pizza since it is just Sicilian pizza, but the crust is thinner. You can as well buy the whole tray.

You can get your pizza every day from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm except Sunday where it closes at 5.30 pm.

The pizza at Rose and Joe’s comes at affordable prices. When you visit Rose and Joe’s, do not forget to ask them for the pizza deals they have for that specific day.

This could save you some money or enable you to get more of their perfect grandma pizza.

If you want to enjoy their Sicilian pizza at the comfort of your home, then you can order by calling 718-721-9422 and have it delivered at an extra fee of $6.9.

Have your pizza topped with spinach, olives, and pepperoni to add some meat element to it. Then top it all with mozzarella and dive into this dreamy delicacy.

Conclusion

If not Italy, we could easily say New York is the motherland of pizza. Pizza tastes magical in New York City.

You can never exhaust all places to enjoy different styles of pizza in the United States. You will always get the spot that suits your needs.

The next time you visit New York, try these listed places. You will never look back.
